Scientific Immaturity, Arrogance & Ego

Name-calling is extremely immature. Especially when discussing science. Are you really so out of control with your emotions that you resort to childish pre-school communication tactics towards people you disagree with?

Comformation bias is active to all sides of every debate. And science (especially health science) is NOT a method of showing “absolute truth”. It’s simply a systematic gathering of EVIDENCE from the study & observation of the natural world. Key word is gathering EVIDENCE. Not “proving facts”. It’s important people understand this when interpruting science in regards to health & epidemiology. Otherwise people hear opinions & statistics and repeat them as absolute facts rather than a peice of evidence contributing to probability.

Furthermore when we are discussing scientific evidence we must remember that evidence is entirely open for interpretation. And its our interpretation of the evidence that we are discussing. Evidence is just data, its what we do with that data based on our interpretation that brings to evidence to life in a sense and gives it purpose. And because evidence is open for interpretation we must understand our discussions of the data are merly opinions rather than facts. Which means it’s important not to speak in absolutes as if you’re speaking “facts”. You’re actually only speaking your interpretations of the evidence available.

A huge part of this is understanding that evidence breeds questions and these questions lead to more evidence which repeats an ongoing cycle.

Calling other people “stupid” for holding an opposing beleif of a scientific issue is completely defeating the entire purpose of science to begin with and is more a reflection of a persons lack of understanding of the scientific method than anything else.

Arrogance & hostility only holds science back. Guys, please don’t be a part of that problem. It’s a huge reason we have so much hostility, wars & turmoil among different tribes in religion, politics & other various sectors of philosphy and science.
